  • Identify different communication modes (speech, gesture, Easy Read, interpreters, translators) and select appropriate methods for each participant.
  • Conduct an initial meeting or intake consultation to determine and document a participant’s communication preferences.
  • Demonstrate how to provide information in the participant’s preferred mode, including written, verbal, or demonstrative formats.
  • Apply organisational policies and procedures to ensure communication preferences are respected and updated when needs change.
  • Evaluate participant understanding through teach-back methods and recordkeeping, ensuring consistent communication across the team.
  • Comply with NDIS Practice Standards, the Code of Conduct, and relevant legislation when managing participant communication needs.
